LATE LEAD GETS AWAY FROM DOLPHINS IN CLOSING MINUTES OF LOSS TO BLOOMFIELD, 65-57

Bloomfield, PA - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team remains in search of their first win of the season following a 65-57 loss to Bloomfield College earlier tonight. The Dolphins, now 0-3, held the lead late in the fourth quarter after erasing an eleven-point deficit, but they could not maintain their lead through the closing minutes. The win for Bloomfield is their first of the season and they improve to 1-2 with the victory..

Jenalyse Alarcon and Daniya Darby carried the scoring burden for their respective teams in the opening quarter as Alarcon scored five of the thirteen Dolphins' points and Darby scored six of Bloomfield's thirteen. Tied after ten minutes of play, the Dolphins gained a slight advantage in the second behind five more points from Alarcon and took a three-point lead into halftime. The Dolphins struggled in the third quarter, and what was once a five-point CSI lead turned into a six-point deficit at the end of three quarters.

Things didn't get any better for the Dolphins at the start of the fourth and the Bears surged ahead by as many as eleven points less than one minute into the final frame. However, the Dolphins battled back and took the lead behind a 14-0 run highlighted by eight points from Ashley Lambert. Leading 53-50 with under five minutes to play, the Dolphins were outscored 9-2 over the next three minutes and trailed by four with two minutes remaining. The Dolphins would turn the ball over twice and did not register another made field goal until the closing seconds as they fell to the Bears by eight points, 65-57.

The Dolphins were once again led in scoring by Alarcon who had 18 points on an efficient 8-11 shooting. Lambert also provided a double-digit scoring effort with 11 points and added 7 rebounds. Elizabeth Lofaro had 7 points and 8 rebounds while Noemia Massingue had 8 points and 6 rebounds. Saja Alston gave the Bears an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double, and two other players came within a single rebound of a double-double for Bloomfield. Darby, Bloomfield's leading scorer in the game finished with 17 and 9 while Nyasia Bryant had 11 points and 9 boards.

The Dolphins will return home this weekend looking for their first victory of the year when they take on East Stroudsburg University on Saturday at 1 PM.
