ANOTHER LATE COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT AS DOLPHINS LOSE TO EAST STROUDSBURG, 70-62

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team saw yet another late-game comeback bid fall short as they lost to the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University earlier today by a score of 70-62.  The Dolphins remain winless following the defeat and have started their season 0-4.  The Warriors remain unbeaten through their first three games with the victory.

The Dolphins go off to a slow start and registered only one made field goal through the first four minutes, but they quickly bounced back and pulled to within two entering the final three minutes of the opening quarter.  Behind eight free throw attempts in the first, the Dolphins remained within striking distance and ended the first trailing by just six.  CSI would trail by as many as ten in the second quarter, but with just 1:34 to play in the half, the Dolphins went on a 10-0 run to take a 32-30 lead into the break.

The second half began far differently than the first as the Dolphins extended their scoring run to 15-0 through the first two minutes of the half. However, the Dolphins then went on an extended scoring drought that lasted for over seven minutes which allowed the Warriors to match their largest lead of ten points. Trailing 47-37, CSI finally ended the East Stroudsburg scoring run with under one minute to play in the third, and the Dolphins entered the fourth behind by seven. The Dolphins would trail by fifteen two separate times in the fourth, the second time with under four minutes remaining. This time, CSI battled back with another 9-0 scoring run and pulled to within six points, but this was as close as they would get. With one minute to play, an offensive foul call stifled the CSI comeback and the Dolphins ultimately fell 70-62.

Noemia Massingue had her best game of the season for the Dolphins with 15 points and 4 rebounds.  Massingue was an efficient 4-7 from the field and 6-8 from the line.  She was also the only Dolphin who scored in double-figures.  Kyra Rose, who was a key part of the CSI comeback effort, finished with 9 points in just 20 minutes on 4-7 shooting.  Anisa Perry finished with just 7 points in 14 minutes on 3-4 from the floor.  For the Warriors, Ryan Weise attempted ten shots, all three-pointers, and hit eight of them.  She finished with 28 points to lead her team, and along with second-leading scorer Shyla Sanford, the duo hit several timely shots down the stretch of the game.  Sanford finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds in a team-high 37 minutes.

The Dolphins will next be in action on Tuesday when they hit the road for another non-conference matchup against Wilmington University.
