Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS EARN FIRST VICTORY WITH BIG WIN OVER WILMINGTON, 80-31

Wilmington, DE - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team earned their first victory of the season tonight with a big 49-point win over the Wilmington University Wildcats, 80-31.  The Dolphins improve to 1-4 with the win and the Wildcats remain winless at 0-5.  The victory is the second straight for the Dolphins over Wilmington as CSI narrowly defeated the Wildcats in their 2021-2022 season-opener, 65-63.  Last year's meeting was the first time the two teams had played one another in nearly 20 years.

The Dolphins scored the game's first six points and soon after went on a 10-0 run to extend a ten-point, 14-4, lead to twenty.  The Dolphins went on to score 27 points in the opening quarter behind strong offensive efforts from Ashley Lambert and Jenalyse Alarcon, and their lead was never in jeopardy for the remainder of the game.  Neither team would score much in the second, but the Dolphins added four points to their lead and led 41-18 at the break.

Elizabeth Lofaro and Lambert got off to a strong start in the second half for the Dolphins, each scoring seven points in the third quarter.  The Dolphins defense also held the Wildcats to single-digit scoring in the third and CSI extended their lead all the way to 38 points.  Kyra Rose was responsible for much of the offense in the fourth quarter as she scored seven of the nineteen total points scored in the final period.  Only four of those nineteen points belonged to the Wildcats as they were held to under ten points for the third straight quarter.  The large lead allowed the Dolphins to play all of their starters under 30 minutes and them team cruised to the 80-31 victory.

Lambert scored a season-high 20 points for the Dolphins on an efficient 8-12 from the field and 2-5 from beyond the arc.  Alarcon was two rebounds shy of a double-double finishing with 10 points and 8 boards while Rose notched her first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Lofaro also scored in double-figures with 10 points on perfect 4-4 shooting.  For the Wildcats, their poor shooting never gave them a chance to compete in the game as they finished 13-71 from the floor and 1-17 from three-point range.  They also shot just 4-13 from the free-throw line and were outrebounded by 20.
