WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS PACE UNIVERSITY FOR SECOND STRAIGHT VICTORY

Staten Island - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team picked up their second straight victory today as they defeated the Pace University Setters by a final score of 54-50.  The win for the Dolphins improves their record to 2-3 while the Setters drop to 1-4 with the defeat.

The Dolphins got off to a hot start and scored the game's first twelve points in the opening quarter.  Elizabeth Lofaro opened the game hitting her first two shots on her way to a career-high 17 points.  The Setters bounced back with an 8-2 run to pull to within six behind four points from Tower Lorde off the bench.  However, the Dolphins would go on to lead by as many as eleven in the first half helped along by six points off the bench from Amaya Jenkins.  With their lead down to four, Jenalyse Alarcon connected on back-to-back shots to put CSI ahead by eight entering halftime.

After the Dolphins scored the first basket of the second half to go back ahead by double-digits, 30-20, the Setters went on an 11-2 run to pull within one.  Lofaro put CSI back ahead by six with five straight points and the Dolphins wrapped up the third quarter ahead 39-35.  Lofaro would score the first five points of the fourth quarter as well to put CSI ahead by nine, but a big Morgan Ryan three pointer pulled Pace back within six again.  This was the beginning of a 7-0 run that trimmed the CSI lead to a pair, but the Dolphins finished strong to secure the win in the closing minutes.  The Setters offense went cold and did not get any closer than four until a late buzzer-beater as the Dolphins took the win 54-50.

Lofaro scored a career-high 17 points for the Dolphins and Kaia Johnson scored a season-high 12 in the victory.  Alarcon added 8 points and 12 rebounds for the Dolphins as well.  Lauren Hackett led the Setters in points with 18 and Tower Lorde scored 15 more off the bench.  Lorde was also just one rebound shy of a double-double with 9 boards.  Both teams shot poorly in the game as Pace finished shooting 29% while the Dolphins shot 31%.  The difference was the three point shooting as the Dolphins shot 6-15 on threes while the Setters shot 5-18 from beyond the arc.

The Dolphins return home on Wednesday night for their conference opener against the Mercy College Mavericks.  That game will be part of a Men's and Women's basketball doubleheader and the women will tip off first at 5:30.
