Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

ARMAS GO-AHEAD THREE EARNS DOLPHINS SECOND STRAIGHT WIN WITH VICTORY OVER YELLOW JACKETS

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team picked up their second consecutive win this afternoon as they defeated the Yellow Jackets of American International College by a final score of 69-64.  The Dolphins improve to 3-6 with the win while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-8 with the loss.  The win avenges a 34-point loss that the Dolphins suffered against American International last season and marks the first time the Dolphins have won back-to-back games this season.

The Dolphins opened the game with red-hot shooting yet again today and scored the game's first seven points in less than three minutes.  The Dolphins shot 6-14 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes and would go on to lead by as many as thirteen in the half.  CSI also registered assists on 12 of their 14 made field goals continuing the trend of great ball movement and selfless play from their game on Tuesday.  However, the Dolphins were plagued by turnovers late in the half and saw their lead trimmed down to five by halftime.

The second half got off to a disastrous start for the Dolphins as the turnovers continued to pile up at an even faster rate.  CSI turned the ball over six times in the first four minutes of the half and the Yellow Jackets opened the half on an 11-0 run.  After the Dolphins finally ended their scoring drought, AIC quickly scored five more unanswered to go ahead by a game-high nine points.  CSI then went on a 7-0 run of their own to pull back to within two, but a Jack Hall three-pointer put the Yellow Jackets back in front by seven with nine minutes remaining.  Three minutes later, the Dolphins still trailed by nine, but this is where the Dolphins comeback would begin.  David Shkolniy hit his fourth three in six attempts to begin the CSI run and Messiah Mallory would go on to tie the game with six straight points.

With the Dolphins leading by three, Hall tied the score at 64 on a step-back three pointer with 22 seconds remaining.  This left the Dolphins with an opportunity for the final shot of the game coming out of a timeout.  On the ensuing possession, the ball ended up in the hands of Luis Armas who connected on a three-pointer from well beyond the arc to give the Dolphins the lead with five seconds remaining.  The Yellow Jackets then threw the next inbound pass away and Mallory iced the game with a pair of free throws.

Mallory made it consecutive phenomenal efforts as he followed up his 29-point game on Tuesday with 21 more points in today's game.  He also grabbed 8 rebounds, blocked two shots and dished out a pair of assists.  Shkolniy had his best game of the season finishing with 16 points. 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals while shooting an efficient 4-6 shooting from downtown.  No Dolphin attempted more shots than Armas who finished with 20 points on 7-17 from the floor and 6-16 from three-point range.  Jack Hall led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 18 points behind a big second half which included a late game-tying basket.  Hall's game was indicative of the overall shooting performance of his team as American International shot only 35% in the first half before shooting well above 50% in the second half.  However, the Yellow Jackets, playing for the third time in five days, could not close out the win in the closing minutes.

The Dolphins will look to make it three straight home wins on Wednesday night when they host Alliance University at the Tank at 7:00 PM.
