Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS CAN'T OVERCOME POOR SECOND QUARTER IN LOSS TO CALDWELL, 65-49

Caldwell, NJ - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team failed to make it back-to-back wins tonight as they dropped their game against Caldwell University by a final score of 65-49.  The Dolphins fall to 4-7 on the year following the defeat and the Cougars improve to 4-5 with the victory.

Neither team was able to seize control of the game in the opening quarter, but Kaia Johnson got off to a strong start for the Dolphins offensively with five early points.  On the other side, Halle Brown and Casey O'Shaughnessy combined to score all but two of the Caldwell points in the first, and the two teams finished the opening period tied at fourteen.  After trading baskets through the first seven minutes of the second quarter, the score was tied at 24 with three minutes remaining in the first half.  However, the Cougars ended the quarter on a 12-0 run led by 12 second quarter points from O'Shaughnessy.

Leading by 12 at the start of the third quarter, Caldwell remained in firm control for the remainder of the game.   The Dolphins got four more points from Johnson in the third, but CSI would not get any closer than eight points in the frame.  O'Shaughnessy also scored 6 more in the third and another 4 in the fourth to finish the game with 27.  For the Dolphins, Jenalyse Alarcon scored 6 of her 8 points in the final quarter, but the Dolphins would not trail by any less than nine in the final ten minutes of the game.

Johnson was the only Dolphin to score in double figures in the game as she finished with 11, and Alarcon finished two points shy of a double-double with 8 points and 13 rebounds.  While the Dolphins made more than one run in the second half to cut the Cougar lead to single digits, they could not overcome their 1-12 shooting from beyond the arc and get within less than eight.  For Caldwell, O'Shaughnessy had 6 rebounds and 5 assists to go along with her 27 points and Lucy Coogan finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds as well.  In addition to CSI's poor three-point shooting, Caldwell outshot the Dolphins from the floor 46% to 40% in the game.

The Dolphins will next be in action on Saturday as they will be on the road for the third straight game when they take on the Goldey Beacom College Lightning.
