Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS CAN'T RECOVER FROM SLOW START IN LOSS TO GOLDEY-BEACOM

Wilmington, DE - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team couldn't recover from a poor first quarter in today's loss to Goldey-Beacom College as they fell by a final score of 81-73.  The Dolphins are now 4-8 on the year and the Lightning improve to 4-7.

The Dolphins took a 4-3 lead 3:27 into the first quarter and only scored two points in the next 6:33.  Meanwhile, the Lightning went on a 19-2 run from that point and led after one by a score of 22-6.  The Goldey-Beacom lead never grew past sixteen in the first half, and behind three Dana Phelan three-pointers and a 19-12 second quarter, the Dolphins trailed by nine at the half.

In the third, the Dolphins once again cut into the Lightning lead thanks in large part to ten points in the quarter from Jenalyse Alarcon.  CSI would go on to tie the score at 51 with less than two minutes remaining in the third, but Goldey-Beacom ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 58-51 lead into the fourth.  The Dolphins would pull to within five two separate times in the fourth, but they would not get any closer than that.  The Lightning would lead by as many as twelve in the closing minutes and went on to win by eight points.

Alarcon led the Dolphins in scoring with 18 points and added 5 rebounds.  Ashley Lambert scored 14 and Phelan scored 9, all coming in the second quarter.  Alexis Harrison led the Lightning in scoring with 17.  Harrison was one of five players in double-figures for Goldey-Beacom in the game.  Both teams shot well with each exceeding 47% shooting, but the Lightning held a distinct advantage from beyond the arc.  The Dolphins shot just 29% form three-point range while the Lightning shot 39%.

The Dolphins will have two weeks off for the holiday recess until they return to action on New Year's Eve when they host Adelphi University at The Tank.
