Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS OFFENSE GOES COLD IN CLOSING MINUTES OF LOSS TO GEORGIAN COURT, 66-62

Lakewood, NJ - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team dropped their game against Georgian Court earlier today after a 14-0 Lions run in the final 4:21 powered them past the Dolphins, 66-62.  The Dolphins are now 3-8 on the season following the defeat and the Lions improve to 6-4 with the win.

The first half was highlighted by the shooting and defense of the Dolphins.  CSI connected on 48% of their attempts from the field and 40% of their attempts from downtown while limiting the Lions to just 27 points in the first half on 30% shooting.  The CSI offense also received a spark from the return of Bryce Waterman who scored 16 points on 5-9 shooting and 4-7 from beyond the arc in just 21 minutes off the bench.  The Dolphins took control of the game at the midway point of the half with an 11-0 run and led by eleven heading into halftime.

The Dolphins led by double-digits for the last time just shy of three minutes into the second half, and they would not lead by more than nine the rest of the way.  However, another 20-point effort from Messiah Mallory kept the Dolphins comfortably ahead for most of the half, and a Luis Armas three put CSI ahead by eight with 4:21 remaining.  From here, the Dolphins offense failed to score for five straight possessions and the Lions offense erupted for a 14-0 run.  Following a pair of turnovers and three missed three-pointers, the Dolphins finally ended the GCU run with 22 seconds remaining, but the Lions were able to close out the win from the line.

The Dolphins were led in scoring by Mallory who registered yet another double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds.  Waterman was second in scoring with 16 and Armas scored 14 on 5-8 from the floor and 4-7 from downtown.  Jamaal Waters matched Mallory's double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Clint Wright Jr. added 15 points and Jalen Bates had 13.  After an efficient first half shooting for the Dolphins and a very poor first-half shooting performance for the Lions, things turned around completely in the second half.  The Dolphins shot sub 40% from the field and just 30% from three-point range in the final 20 minutes while the Lions improved to 40% from the field and shot over 45% from beyond the arc.

The Dolphins have one game remaining on the schedule before the break for the holiday recess as they will take on Felician University on Monday at 7:00.
