GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BACK AT HOME FOR CONFERENCE MATCHUP WITH UDC

12/6/2022 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team will return home this evening for a conference matchup with the University of the District of Columbia.  The Dolphins come in 3-5 overall and 1-1 against the ECC following Saturday's loss against St. Thomas Aquinas College.  The Firebirds are 4-4 on the season and are also 1-1 against the conference entering tonight's game.  The Firebirds have won the only two meetings between the two teams, both of which came last season.

The Dolphins last played on Saturday against the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College and were a bit shorthanded entering their second conference game.  The Dolphins went on to lose the game by 23, snapping their win streak at three games.  Like the Dolphins, the Firebirds have also faced Mercy and STAC in conference play.  UDC defeated the Spartans 68-58 on Wednesday and lost to Mercy on Saturday in their most recent game, 84-75.

Jenalyse Alarcon and Ashley Lambert continue to lead the Dolphins in scoring averaging 12.3 and 10.4 points per game respectively.  Alarcon leads the Dolphins in rebounding, assists, blocks, and steals as well.  As a team, the Dolphins are shooting 40% from the field and nearly 36% from beyond the arc.  Defensively, they have limited opponents to 36% shooting from the floor and 31% from three-point range.  The CSI defense will be tasked with slowing down the Firebirds' two leading scorers, Destiny Ryles and Latavia Jackson.  Both are averaging over 18 points per game.  Jackson, who is shooting just shy of 50% from the field, is also the team's leading rebounder.
