Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team lost to the University of Bridgeport today, 79-71. They would see a 21-point lead evaporate in what was a 29-point turnaround. This snaps the Dolphins two-game win streak. CSI falls to 7-14 on the season (6-8 ECC), while on the other side, the Purple Knights improve to 9-14 overall (6-8 ECC).
KEY MOMENTS
The Dolphins scratched first behind an easy
Messiah Mallory finish. Both teams traded blows throughout the first five minutes of play as CSI lead, 9-7. This back-and-forth play continued as both teams were in a great offensive rhythm. Bridgeport took their first lead with under 10 minutes to go in the first half, 19-18. The Dolphins built a five-point advantage following back-to-back buckets from Mallory, 24-19.
Bryce Waterman and
Chamald Martin helped CSI extend their lead to 12 behind a trey and layup inside. The Dolphins were up 31-19 with 3:36 to go in the half. CSI went on a 22-5 run to close the first half as they led by 18 at intermission, 42-24. To start the second half, the Dolphins picked up right where they left off with Waterman knocking down consecutive treys. CSI continued to pour it on as they lead by as much as 22, but the Purple Knights were able to cut it to 14 behind some hot shooting, 55-41. The Dolphins had to talk it over. Bridgeport kept it coming however and went on an impressive 13-0 run to cut the lead to single digits, 55-47. The Purple Knights would storm all the way back to tie the game 57-57 with 8:15 remaining in the contest. Out of a CSI timeout, Bridgeport still had it going and they took their first lead since the first half, 62-59. The Dolphins fell behind by as much as nine, and it looked like they had lost all momentum. They unfortunately would never recover as they got outscored by 26 in the second half (55-29). CSI fell to the Purple Knights, 79-71.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Despite the loss, the Dolphins had a fairly solid floor game today. They scored 71 points, grabbed down 41 rebounds, and dished out 15 assists. In the contest they shot 44% from the field, 28% from three and 50% from the line. Bridgeport out rebounded CSI by 10 (51-41) leading to a 12-point disparity in second chance points (16-4). Behind a hot second half, the Purple Knights shot 39% from the field, 24% from three, and 52% from the line.
