2/21/2022 6:03:00 PM

Piscataway, NJ | Following the fourth and final day of competition at Rutgers University, the College of Staten Island wrapped up their participation in the 2022 Metropolitan Swimming & Diving Conference Championship. With all results in, the women placed 12th while the men earned a 7th-place finish. Fellow East Coast Conference member Roberts-Wesleyan College ranked 10th overall. For the Dolphins, this year's performance marks an improvement over their last outing in the event two years ago and paves the way for a bright future as the program completes their second full season as an NCAA Division II member.

WOMEN'S MEET
Jessica Johnson led the women's team breaking both a personal record and school record. Her time of 25.10 in the 50-yard freestyle event set a new school record, barely edging out Ewa Wojciechowskia's time of 25.22. In the 100 Yard breaststroke event, Johnson registered her best time as a Dolphin with a 1:10.18 in the preliminary race. In the finals, she finished with a time of 1:10.27. Entering this meet, her best time was 1:14.77.

On the Diving side, Jordan Swanson finished 4th overall in one-meter and three-meter diving amidst a field of fourteen divers. This placement earned her the highest ranking in the history of the CSI Swimming and Diving program as no diver had previously placed 4th or higher in these events.

The women's meet was won by the University of Mary Washington with 1,476 points. They were followed by The College of New Jersey with 1,290 points and Rowan University with 1,096.

MEN'S MEET
Senior Michael Stora also provided the best performances of his career on the conference championship stage. Stora was part of the 400-meter medley relay squad that broke the school record for that event, and he also scored personal best 27 individual points at this year's Metro Championships. Joining Stora as members of the record-breaking relay squad were sophomore Maxim Kleyer, and freshmen David Poggioli and Charles Cusumano. Cusumano also scored a personal best 25 individual points.

In addition to helping CSI to a record-setting relay time and a personal best in individual points, Stora went on to achieve his best times in the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke events. His time for the 100-meter final was 58.73, and in the 200 Meter final his time was 2:10.63. Junior Tom Smith also scored a personal best in the 50-meter freestyle event nabbing a time of 23.97. This time was enough to secure him first place in that heat for the 50-meter freestyle.

The men's meet was won by the College of New Jersey with 1,648.50 points. In second was Rowan University with 1,457 points. Lastly, the United States Merchant Marine Academy finished third with 1,235.5 points. CSI's 329 total points were good for 7th in the fourteen-team field.

COACHES REACTION
"Being back at Metro for our conference champs was an incredible way to end the year. After a long time off due to COVID, the team deserved this. What they overcame to stick with all of the challengers is a true testament to their dedication and hard work," said Head Coach Michael Ackalitis.
