WOMEN’S SOCCER 2022 SEASON PREVIEW; SET TO PLAY TWO GAMES ON THE ROAD IN A THREE-DAY SPAN THIS WEEKEND

8/26/2022 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team will hit the road to start their 2022 campaign early this morning when they play the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University. Game time is set for 11:00am in New Haven, Connecticut as part of Southern Connecticut State University's (SCSU) Women's Soccer Classic. This will be the Ravens first game of the season as well as their first matchup ever against CSI.

The Dolphins play again on the same field on Sunday for a 5:00pm game time against the host of the classic, the Owls of SCSU. The Owls will play the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport later today as part of the classic and will then play the Dolphins on Sunday for the second meeting ever between the teams. In the Owls versus Dolphins first matchup last season, CSI found themselves on the losing side, 5-0, though put up a fight, especially in the first half.

The Dolphins enter this season officially a NCAA Division II Program and now eligible for the East Coast Conference (ECC) playoffs. Second year Head Coach Brendan Guzman, alongside newly hired Assistant Coach Damari East, are excited to get the season started with a little extra motivation to make it to the playoffs in their first year of postseason eligibility.

Last season, CSI ended their 2021 campaign with a 3-14-1 overall record and a 2-6-1 ECC record. It was Brendan's first year with the program sporting a mostly rookie squad. Coach Guzman has confidence in his team, as he is bringing back many of those rookies, whom all logged 900 plus minutes on the field. Fifth year senior, Jacquelyn D'Amico continues to be the veteran force on the team, while freshmen Andriana Melgar looks to provide some added offensive production to a team that averaged under one goal per-game on five shots per-game. On the defensive end, Coach Guzman praises Megan Meagher, a sophomore, for taking the reins of leadership in the backfield this season. Meagher logged nearly 1,600 minutes on the field last season as one of their defensive anchors in every game. CSI will need to approach every game differently and with a keen focus on the ECC matchups as their first goal is getting into the playoffs come November.
