Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS FALL TO KNIGHTS IN THIRD CHAPTER OF CUNY RIVALRY

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team faced the Queens College Knights earlier tonight in the third meeting between the two teams and fell by a final score of 66-55.  The Dolphins fall to 5-11 on the season with the loss and drop to 1-5 against the East Coast Conference.  The Knights improve to 5-9 with the victory and are 3-2 against the conference.

The Dolphins did not shoot well in the opening quarter, but they were able to remain within striking distance throughout the opening period.  Both Jenalyse Alarcon and Ashley Lambert scored four points in the first ten minutes, and the Dolphins trailed by just three after one quarter.  The Dolphins would get as close as one early in the second quarter, but despite 50% shooting by CSI in the period, the Dolphins quickly fell behind by ten with five minutes remaining in the first half.  The deficit would not grow any further and the Dolphins were able to pull back to within two points on their fourth three-pointer of the quarter with 2:07 to go.  However, the Knights went on a 8-0 run heading into the intermission and once again were up by ten at the break.

The Dolphins were unable to build upon their drastic improvement from the field in the second quarter and struggled from the field in the third.  CSI fell behind by as many as seventeen points before cutting the Queens lead back down to nine with just under two minutes remaining in the third.  Once again, the Knights would end a quarter on a scoring run, this time 6-0, and they took a 15-point lead into the fourth.  CSI would not get to within single-digits again for the remainder of the game and would go on to lose by eleven.

Lambert and Alarcon were the only two Dolphins to score in double-figures finishing with 12 and 14 points respectively.  Kyra Rose was the only Dolphin to shoot above the 50% as she finished with 8 points on 4-6 from the field.  As a team, the Dolphins shot 35% from the field and 26% from beyond the arc.  Chelsea Reeves scored 20 points to lead the Knights and was second on the team with 8 rebounds as well.  Brianna Davis registered an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double in 30 minutes.  The Knights did not shoot much better than CSI in the game as a unit, but Queens scored nine more points off of Dolphin turnovers which accounted for almost their entire margin of victory.

The Dolphins will return to action on Saturday when they will host St. Thomas Aquinas College at The Tank on Alumni Day.  The women will open Saturday's doubleheader at 1:00 PM followed by the men's game at 3:00 PM.
