WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SNAPS LOSING SKID WITH CONFERENCE WIN OVER MOLLOY, 58-41

Staten Island, NY -  The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team snapped a two-game losing skid with a win over Molloy University earlier today as they defeated the Lions58-41.  The Dolphins improve to 6-11 with the win and improve to 2-5 in conference play.  The Lions fall to 3-13 on the year and are also 2-5 against the East Coast Conference.

The Dolphins started the game strong and back-to-back Elizabeth Lofaro three-pointer gave the Dolphins a 6-2 lead.  The Dolphins would go ahead by as many as eight points in the opening quarter and took a six-point advantage into the second.  After a slow finish to the first offensively for both teams, the first basket of the second quarter wasn't scored until the 7:27 mark in the period.  It wasn't until there were two minutes remaining in the half that Molloy would take their first lead, 19-18, but the Dolphins scored the final points of the half to take a 20-19 lead into the intermission.

Lofaro continued her strong offensive effort in the third quarter and put CSI ahead by six late in the period with her third three-pointer of the game.  That basket kick started a 12-0 Dolphins run to end the third and CSI surged ahead 44-29 entering the final quarter.  That scoring run was extended to 16-0 to begin the fourth and CSI achieved their largest lead of the game, 19 points.  The Lions would get as close as eleven with four minutes to play, but the CSI lead was never in jeopardy beyond that point in the game.  The Dolphins would go on to secure a seventeen-point win behind a second-half effort that saw the Dolphins outscore the Lions 38-22.

Lofaro and Kyra Rose were the only Dolphins who finished the game in double-figures.  Lofaro did much of her damage from beyond the arc shooting 3-5 from distance.  Rose did the majority of her work in the paint finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds to earn her second double-double of the season.  It was an offensive struggle for Molloy in the game as no Lion scored more than ten points and the team shot 16-66 in the game.  The Lions shot just 2-17 from beyond the arc and did not score more than twelve points in any quarter.  The CSI shooting helped them maintain a comfortable lead for much of the second half as the Dolphins shot over 41% in the game.  The win for the Dolphins was their first against Molloy in program history.

The Dolphins will return to action in one week when they take on Roberts Wesleyan University on the road.  They will then face Mercy on the road four days later before coming back home to face St. Thomas Aquinas College on January 28th.
