1/13/2023 11:00:00 PM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Indoor Track & Field Team returned to action following over one month without a meet earlier today as they took part in the Spartan Invitational.  For the Dolphins, today marks the third time CSI has competed in this event since the 2019-2020 season.  Today's meet once again featured record-setting performances and saw freshman Jazmine Severo finish top-10 overall in the High Jump.  Other Dolphins also achieved personal bests and ranked very highly among athletes representing the East Coast Conference.  Today's meet featured a mix of programs across multiple NCAA Divisions with Division I institutions Lafayette, NJIT, Rider College, and American University.

Following up a huge performance in CSI's first meet, Skylar Pointer once again set a school record in the Weight Throw with a lifetime-best distance of 13.69m.  This was good for the third-best distance in the ECC, 8th in the NCAA DII East Region, and 11th in today's Spartan Invitational.  Ava Thompson achieved a season-best distance of 12.46m in the Weight Throw which was good for fifth in the ECC, 15th in the East Region, and 19th in today's Spartan Invite.  Perhaps no individual performance for the Dolphins was more impressive than freshman Jazmine Severo.  In the High Jump she set yet another CSI record and tied for the best mark in the ECC at 1.55m.  That mark was also good for 6th in the East Region and 11th in today's meet.

On the track, Julia Calvo registered a time of 2:45.94 in the 800-meter and Alexandrea Jackson finished closely behind her with a time of 2:47.24.  Their time's were good for 26th and 28th respectively in today's Spartan Invite.  Rounding out a series of standout performances in the field, Columbus Enslen achieved a distance of 5.68m in the Long Jump, a distance that was good for 29th overall.

"With thanks to the tremendous support from some of our local alumni, the team came out of the break and held their own against good competition," said Associate Head Coach James Luginsland.  "Our field event athletes continue to show positive results as well," he continued.  "We just need to keep working hard, which I know we will, as well as, continue to build a rhythm and good things will come."

The Dolphins will return to action in one week when they take part in the Gotham Cup next Friday.
