1/13/2023 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Indoor Track & Field Team returns to action for the first time since their season-opening meet in early December today as they compete in the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College.  The Dolphins enter today's meet coming off of a record-setting performance at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational in December where several Dolphins earned a place in the Track & Field record books.  Today's meet will mark the third time that the Dolphins have competed in the Spartan Invitational as they took part in the meet both last season and in 2019.

Last meet saw several Dolphins make very impressive debuts and it was many of those newcomers to the CSI roster who set new program records.    For the women, freshman Aryanna Finkelstein bested the former Shot Put record with a toss of 10.24 meters and achieved a distance of 10.18 meters in the Weight Throw.  Another CSI record was set freshman Jazmine Severo who hit 1.50 meters in the High Jump.  On the men's side, freshman Columbus Enslen easily surpassed the previous records with a 6.08 meter Long Jump and an 11.84 meter Triple Jump.  Fellow freshman Kevin Hasty surpassed the previous Shot Put record by a wide margin as well with a toss of 11.31 meters, good for 9th overall.

Among the CSI returners there were also several standout efforts during CSI's season opener.   Skylar Pointer began her sophomore season by shattering the CSI Women's Shot Put record by 3 feet.  Her toss of 10.91 meters was not only a record-breaking effort but it was also good for 10th place overall.  Pointer finished 10th in the Weight Throw at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational as well.  Ava Thompson and Rebecca Andes were also among the standout returners for the CSI women.  Thompson led the CSI with a toss of 12.06 meters in the Weight Throw while Andes hit a personal-best 10.58 meters in the same event.  For the men, Muhammed Qadri led the way for the CSI men on the track with a time of 2:49.54 in the 1000m.
