NEW YORK, NY – The College of Staten Island men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened their indoor season Friday and Saturday at the New York Armory, competing in the Dr. Sander Invitational hosted by Columbia University.
Day 1
The Dolphins saw three standout performances on the opening day of competition. Akeem Pollard got CSI off to a strong start in the 60-meter dash, winning his heat with a season-best time of 7.09. He placed seventh overall in a field of 45 competitors.
On the women's side, Adionjah Washington continued her strong season in the triple jump. The Division II East Region leader finished second overall, recording a mark of 11.46 meters on her final attempt. Kayla Larsen also impressed in the 400-meter run, posting a personal-best time of 1:04.30.
Day 2
Day two featured a record-breaking performance in the long jump. Competing in his flight, the Dolphins' jumper placed fourth overall while breaking the program's long jump record on his first attempt with a leap of 6.38 meters, a mark that had stood for nearly a year.
Sam Whelan was another top performer, earning a second-place overall finish in the 200 meters with a time of 22.30. He also won his heat against three other competitors.
The College of Staten Island indoor track and field teams will next compete in their first major road trip of the season, traveling to Boston, MA, for the two-day Boston Terrier Classic on January 30–31.
