Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MEN'S BASKETBALL KNOCKS OFF MOLLOY FOR THIRD CONFERENCE WIN, 84-70

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team picked up their second win in three games earlier today as they defeated Molloy University, 84-70.  The Dolphins improve to 5-11 on the season with the win and improve to 3-4 against the East Coast Conference.  The Lions are now 6-12 on the season following the loss and fall to 5-2 in conference play.

The Dolphins got off to an uncharacteristically poor start to begin the game and fell behind 12-4 five minutes into the first half.  However, the Dolphins bounced back quickly with a 9-0 run to go ahead 13-12.  Messiah Mallory led the way for the Dolphins during that run with six points in the first seven minutes of the game.  Luis Armas picked up the scoring from there and added ten points off the CSI bench, four coming on an and-one from beyond the arc.  A Jake Lynch three-pointer for Molloy snapped another CSI scoring run at 9-0 and brought the Lions to within six, 25-19.  The Dolphins then went on another scoring run, this time 10-0, and went ahead by sixteen points.  This would be CSI's largest lead of the half and Molloy would work their way back to within ten ahead of the intermission.

The Lions would not get any closer than ten the rest of the way as CSI broke the game wide open coming out of the intermission.  Already ahead by ten, 46-36, the Dolphins went on their largest run of the game, 13-0.  Led by the scoring of Jordan McAllister and stifling defense, the Dolphins earned their largest lead of the game with just under fourteen minutes remaining.  The CSI lead was not threatened at any point during the final fourteen minutes and the Dolphins picked up their third conference win of the season, 84-70.

Mallory led the Dolphins in scoring and in rebounding with 23 points and 9 boards.  He also blocked 5 shots in what was another strong defensive effort for he and the rest of the Dolphins.  McAllister continued the impressive start to his CSI career as well with 18 points and both Bryce Waterman and Armas scored 13.  For Molloy, Darren Fergus never left the floor and finished the game with 14 points.  Terrance Crowley provided a spark off the bench with another 14 points, 12 coming on three-point attempts.  However, the Lions shot the ball very poorly in the game while the Dolphins shot nearly 47% from the field.  The Dolphins also scored nearly twice as many points in the paint and shot far better from the free-throw line.  The win for the Dolphins earns them a 2-1 lead against Molloy in the all-time series.

The Dolphins will return to action in non-conference play on Tuesday night against Franklin Pierce.  They will then face Roberts Wesleyan on the road next Saturday to begin another stretch of games against the ECC.
