MEETDAY: SWIMMING & DIVING RETURNS TO ACTION WITH FIRST MEET OF 2023 AGAINST BARUCH

1/16/2023 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team returns to action after a four-week layoff when they take on former CUNYAC rival Baruch College today at 2 PM.  The CSI men come into today's meet with a 3-3 record on the season while the women come in 3-4.  For Baruch, their men enter today's meet with a record of 4-1 and the women come in with a record of 3-4.  These two teams are very familiar with one another from CSI's time as a Division III program competing in the City University of New York Athletic Conference.  The CSI men hold a 12-6 advantage in the all-time series against Baruch and the Bearcat women hold a 13-5 advantage over the Dolphins in the all-time series.

The Dolphins last competed exactly one month ago on December 16th against the Pace University Setters.  The women suffered the loss in that meet, but it was a big win for the men who avenged a heartbreaking loss to the Setters last season with a 154-131 victory.  The Bearcats earned a sweep in their last meet against Lehman College as both the men and women earned decisive victories over the Lightning.

The last time CSI and Baruch faced one another was during the 2019-2020 season, the first season after CSI announced their move Division II.  In that meet, Baruch picked up a pair of narrow victories over CSI as the Bearcat men defeated the Dolphins 119-108 and the Bearcat women beat CSI 111-101.  Both meets came down to the final event, and for the CSI men, that loss ended their unbeaten start to the season at 3-0.  The Bearcat men finished unbeaten against the CUNYAC that season and have not lost a meet against CSI's former conference since.  As a Division II member, the Dolphins will once again compete in the Metropolitan Swimming & Diving Conference Championships this year since the East Coast Conference does not currently sponsor Swimming & Diving.

Today's meet will be the first of three home meets for the Dolphins to wrap up their regular season.  Following today's matchup with the Bearcats, the women will face Hunter on January 20th.  The season will then conclude with a tri-meet to as the men face USMMA and the women face both USMMA and Kean University.
