1/16/2023 7:00:00 PM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team faced former CUNYAC rival Baruch College earlier today and picked up a pair of victories over the Bearcats.  In the men's meet, the Dolphins picked up the win 144-73 and in the women's meet CSI earned a 116-80 win.  The victory improved the men to 4-3 and the win for the women evened up their record on the season at 4-4.

The Dolphins opened the meet by winning each of the first three events they participated in, the Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay, the Women's 1000 Yard Freestyle, and the Men's 1000 Yard Freestyle.  It was Melissa Poggioli who earned the first individual event win for the women and Charles Cusumano who won picked up the first individual event win for the men.  After taking second in the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle, the Dolphins took first place in four consecutive events.  Anthony Attenborough won the 200 Yard Freestyle, Brooke Manning and David Poggioli each won the 50 Yard Freestyle, and Jessica Johnson won the 200 Yard Individual Medley.

Only the Dolphins participated in the Diving events with Jordan Swanson posting a score of at least 255.65 in both the 1 Meter and 3 Meter Diving events.  Michael Graham was the lone participant for the men and earned CSI two more first-place scores.  The next individual win for the Dolphin came from Attenborough in the 100 Yard Butterfly with the next win for the women coming from Johnson in the 100 Yard Freestyle.  Poggioli won the same event for the men and Morgan Novello earned the next win for the women in the 500 Yard Freestyle.  The win for Novello was the first of six straight for the Dolphins to close the meet.  William Kwan would continue that streak with a win in the 500 Yard Freestyle for the men.  Johnson and Kwan would each win the 100 Yard Backstroke and CSI would finish the meet with victories in each of the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay events.

The CSI women have two meets remaining ahead of the Metropolitan Swimming & Diving Championship.  The first will take place on Friday night against another former CUNYAC rival in Hunter College.  Friday's meet will take place at The Tank and get underway at 6 PM.  The CSI men wrap up their season on January 25th when they take on USMMA.  That same day, the women will face both USMMA and Kean University.
