MEETDAY: WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING FACES LONGTIME RIVAL HUNTER COLLEGE

1/20/2023 10:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Swimming & Diving Team is back in action tonight as they will face another CUNYAC opponent in longtime rival Hunter College.  The Dolphins enter tonight's meet with a record of 4-4 on the season and the Hawks come in with a record of 8-2 on the year.  The Hawks have gotten the better of the all-time series against the Dolphins and have won 18 of the 21 meetings between the two programs spanning all the way back to 1999.

The Dolphins were last in action on Monday when they hosted another member of their former conference in Baruch College.  The Dolphins earned their fourth win of the season behind a 116-80 victory over the Bearcats.  During that meet several Dolphins earned first-place finishes for the CSI women including Melissa Poggioli, Jessica Johnson, Morgan Novello, Brooke Manning and Jordan Swanson.  Swanson posted a pair of impressive scores as she participated unopposed in 1 Meter and 3 Meter Diving while Johnson also tallied multiple event victories with wins in the 200 Yard IM, 100 Yard Freestyle, and 100 Yard Backstroke.  The last meet for the Hawks came was on Tuesday when they fell to Felician University in a dual meet, 62-33.  The loss for the Hawks was just their second of the season and their matchup with the Golden Falcons was the first of two consecutive meets against Division II competition to end their regular season.

The last time CSI faced Hunter was in November of the 2019-2020 season, the first year after the Dolphins announced their move to NCAA Division II.  In that meet, the Hawks picked up a convincing win over the Dolphins, 127-85.  The Hawks went a perfect 5-0 against the CUNYAC that season and went on to win the CUNYAC Swimming & Diving Championship.  The Dolphins were ineligible for the postseason that year as it was their first season as a provisional NCAA Division II program.  They went on to finish the regular season 7-5 and took 12th place at the Metropolitan Swimming & Diving Conference Championship.

Today's meet is the last before the Dolphins wrap up the regular season on Senior Day next Wednesday.  Following today's matchup with the Hawks, the women will be rejoined by the men for the final meet of the regular season on January 25th.  The Dolphins will compete in a tri-meet that evening as the men will face USMMA and the women face both USMMA and Kean University at 6:00 PM.
