GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FACES DAEMEN IN RETURN TO CONFERENCE PLAY

1/6/2023 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team returns to conference play this evening as they take on the Wildcats of Daemen University at 5:30 PM.  The Dolphins are 5-8 on the season following last Saturday's victory over Adelphi and are 1-2 against the East Coast Conference.  The Wildcats are 8-2 on the year with a 3-1 mark against conference opponents.  The two teams have met twice in a pair of games played last season with the Wildcats taking the victory in both games.

The Dolphins last played on Saturday when they defeated the Adelphi University Panthers by a final score of 68-60.  CSI trailed by as many as eight in the third quarter, but the Dolphins were able to come all the way back behind 16 points from Jenalyse Alarcon and 14 more from Kaia Johnson.  The Wildcats were last in action on Monday against St. Michael's and took the win in that game by fifteen points, 63-48.

Following her 16-point, 9-rebound, 3-steal effort in CSI's last game against the Panthers, Alarcon was named the East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.  In that game, the Dolphins forced 22 Adelphi turnovers on their way to their fifth win of the year.  Alarcon leads the Dolphins in scoring at just shy of 12 points per game on the season as well, and Ashley Lambert joins her in averaging double-figures at 10.5 points per game.  Paige Emborsky is the lone double-digit scorer for Daemen at 12.2 points per game to lead the Wildcats.  As a team, Daemen shoots below 40% from the field on the year, but they have shot over 38% from beyond the arc.  As for the Dolphins, they are shooting 41% from the floor and 33% from downtown on the season.

All-Time Series - Daemen leads 2-0
Last Meeting - 1/28/22:  Deamen won, 73-48
