Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS SECOND CONFERENCE WIN WITH VICTORY OVER D'YOUVILLE, 92-70

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team earned their second conference victory of the season earlier today as they picked up a 92-70 victory over the D'Youville University Saints.  The Dolphins improve to 4-10 on the season with the win and move to 2-3 against the East Coast Conference.  The Saints are now 3-11 following the loss and fall to 2-4 in conference play.

The two teams traded baskets early and were tied at eleven through the first five minutes of the game.  Six of the eleven CSI points belonged to Messiah Mallory who opened the game with an emphatic two-handed dunk.  Once the score was tied, the Saints went on a 9-0 run to take their largest lead of the game.  However, the Dolphins would not go away and kept the game within single digits until the closing seconds of the first half.  With time expiring ahead of the intermission, Luis Armas connected on a buzzer-beating three to put the Dolphins ahead 42-40 at the break.

The Dolphins opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take a nine-point lead, but the Saints responded with seven straight points of their own to pull back to within two.  The Dolphins then scored the next eight points including six more from Mallory to go ahead by double-digits for the first time in the game.  The Saints would not get any closer than seven the rest of the way as the Dolphins offense ultimately erupted for 50 second-half points.  CSI would go on to win the game by 22 to earn their second conference win of the year.  Their 92 points were good for their second-highest scoring output of the year and their highest point total in a victory.

JJ Chestnut led the Dolphins in scoring for the second time in three days as he followed his career-high scoring effort on Friday with 21 points in today's game.  Mallory finished with a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double, his fourth double-double of the season.  Jordan McAllister scored 16 in his second outing of the season and Armas once again provided a big spark off the bench with 18 points.  Will Kondrat led the Saints in scoring with 19 points and in rebounding with 10 boards.  Nelson St. Louis, Luke Theisen, and Latrell Butler joined him in double-figures, but none of them shot above 50% from the field.  The shooting of the Dolphins was simply too much for the Saints to overcome in the game as CSI finished shooting over 55% while the D'Youville shot 35%.

The Dolphins will join the women on the road for a meeting with Queens College on Wednesday.  The team then returns home on Saturday for a matchup with St. Thomas Aquinas College.
