Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MEN'S BASKETBALL WRAPS UP 2023 TOURNAMENT OF HEROES

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team wrapped up the 2023 Tournament of Heroes earlier today and ended the weekend without a victory against two top-tier regional opponents.  On Friday night, the Dolphins opened their season with a loss to Saint Anselm College by a final score of 92-69.  The Hawks then proceeded to fall to 1-1 on the weekend after losing to Saint Thomas Aquinas earlier today.  In their second game the Dolphins faced Southern New Hampshire University and lost by a final score of 99-79.  With the win, the Penmen finish the weekend 1-1 after their loss to the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Friday.  The Dolphins ended the two-day Tournament of Heroes as the only team without a win as they start the year 0-2.

The Dolphins ignited a capacity crowd at The Tank in the first half of Friday's loss to the Hawks as CSI took a lead as large as eight points in the first half.  Behind red-hot three-point shooting to start the game, the Dolphins had the home crowd in a frenzy, but Saint Anselm was able to maintain their composure on their way to a comeback.  After falling behind 29-22, the Hawks finished the half on a 21-8 run and took a 6-point lead into the halftime locker room.  From there, the Hawks opened the second half on a 10-4 run and went ahead by double-figures for the first time.  The Dolphins briefly pulled to within nine soon after, but Saint Anselm proceeded to break the game wide open from there as they went on to win, 92-69.

On Saturday, the Dolphins faced the Penmen of SNHU who were also defeated in their game against STAC on Friday night.  It was a back-and-forth first half that saw several lead changes through the first eight minutes.  Messiah Mallory led the way offensively for the Dolphins with six early points after a brief departure from the game with an injury.  However, after the game was tied at 20 with 12:09 remaining before halftime, the Penmen erupted for a 13-0 run in just two minutes.  The Dolphins cut the lead to nine twice before halftime, but the never got any closer than thirteen in the second half as they went on to lose by 20.

Today's game was the second of five straight Men's Basketball home games to open the season.  They return to action at The Tank on Wednesday when they take on Holy Family University at 7:30 PM.
