Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS FIRST WIN WITH VICTORY OVER HOLY FAMILY, 94-86

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team earned their first win of the season earlier tonight as they defeated Holy Family University by a final score of 94-86.  After falling behind early, the Dolphins recovered from a slow start and took a one point lead into halftime.  They opened the second half on a scoring run on their way to building their largest lead of the game and went on to win by eight.  The Dolphins and Tigers both end the night 1-2 and CSI evens up the all-time series at one game per side.

The Tigers scored the first nine points of the game, but the Dolphins quickly responded with an 8-0 run of their own.  From there, both teams traded baskets for much of the first half with CSI taking their first lead 11 minutes into the game.  The two teams would trade baskets for much of the half before Jordan McAllister and Aaron Goldstein scored 11 straight points to put the Dolphins in front by four.  Another Goldstein three put CSI ahead by five, their largest lead of the half, but the Tigers were able to trim the lead down to one heading into halftime.

Following the break, the Dolphins scored the first nine points of the second half to go ahead by double-digits for the first time.  However, they lost Messiah Mallory to foul trouble early in the half leading by just three.  While McAllister and Goldstein continued their strong offensive effort, the CSI bench also provided the team with a spark.  Michael Oyekanmi's defense and rebounding helped CSI protect their narrow lead before two Bryce Waterman three-pointers and a Goldstein fastbreak layup put the Dolphins ahead by 12.  The CSI lead grew as large as 14 and never got below 8 again as the Dolphins closed out the Tigers for their first win of the season.

Goldstein led the Dolphins with 21 points, McAllister had 18, and Waterman had 14.  Mallory registered a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double, and Chris Clancy added 13 points of the bench.  Oyekanmi scored 9 off the bench to go along with 5 rebounds in just 13 minutes as well.  Five Tigers scored in double-figures and Holy Family shot nearly 47% from the field.  However, the Dolphins dominated on the glass and connected on three more shots from beyond the arc.

The Dolphins are back in action on Saturday when they face Jefferson University at 3:00 PM.  This will be the fourth of five straight home games to open the 2023-2024 season.
