Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS CAN'T OVERCOME SLOW START IN LOSS TO HOLY FAMILY

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team wrapped up the 2023 Conference Challenge yesterday and could not overcome a slow shooting start in a 73-48 loss to the Tigers of Holy Family University.  The Dolphins fall to 1-1 to open the season and the Tigers likewise even up their record at 1-1 to start the year.  The Tigers victory also improves Holy Family to 3-0 against the Dolphins all-time.

Defense dominated the game early, and five minutes into the game Holy Family led CSI 2-0.  However, the Tigers offense began to find their footing from there and went on to lead by as many as 11 before the Dolphins scored their first basket.  The Dolphins scored for the first time with three minutes to play in the first, but were unable to get any closer than eight as the Tigers ended the quarter leading 20-7.  During the second, the Tigers continued their red-hot shooting and began to pull away for good.  Holy Family would extend their lead to as many as 23 points by halftime, and they would lead by at least 20 the rest of the way.

Despite the tough shooting game, Dana Phelan scored 14 for the second consecutive game and finished 2-5 from beyond the arc.  Jenalyse Alarcon also scored in double-figures for the second straight game and finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds.  For the Tigers, four players scored at least 10 points and Skyler Searfoss registered a double-double in the win.

The Dolphins won't be back home for nine days but will return to action this weekend when they visit East Stroudsburg University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
