Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT IN FOURTH QUARTER OF LOSS TO EAST STROUDSBURG

East Stroudsburg, PA - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team played their first road game earlier today as they saw a second-half comeback bid fall short in a loss to East Strousburg.  The Dolphins fall to 1-2 with the defeat and the Warriors improve to 2-1 with the victory.  East Stroudsburg also remains unbeaten all-time against the Dolphins in two meetings across the last two seasons.

The Dolphins took a 3-0 lead less than 20 seconds into the game on an Ashley Lambert three, but CSI would not score again for over 3 minutes.  Trailing by seven, Dana Phelan brought the Dolphins back to within four on a three-pointer, and a second consecutive three-pointer by Phelan cut the Warriors lead to three.  However, the Dolphins would quickly fall behind by seven before ending the quarter behind by just two following a quick 5-0 run.  CSI immediately tied the score to open the second quarter, but the Dolphins were never able to secure the lead.  The Warriors went ahead by as many as eight before halftime, and East Stroudsburg went into the half leading by six.

The two teams combined for only 17 points in the third quarter and the Warriors continued to keep the Dolphins at arms-length.  This changed early in the fourth when a Gia Esposito three brought the Dolphins to within four again.  Dorothy Wiese then made it a one-possession game from the free-throw line, but a 6-0 Warriors run extended their lead right back to nine.  The Dolphins would score just three more points the rest of the way as their comeback bid fizzled out in the closing minutes of a 57-42 loss.

Phelan scored in double-figures for the third straight game to open the season, but the Dolphins shot just 12-50 in the game.  Kyra Rose finished two points shy of a double-double with 8 points and 10 boards, and Jenalyse Alarcon also grabbed 11 rebounds.  Izzy Vogel led all scorers with 17 for the Warriors and was the only player to surpass 10 points for East Stroudsburg.

The Dolphins return home on Tuesday night for another non-conference matchup with Wilmington University at 5:30 PM.  The game will open a Men's and Women's Basketball doubleheader at The Tank which will also see the men face Georgian Court University.
