Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS WIN BIG OVER WILMINGTON FOR SECOND HOME VICTORY, 77-51

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team returned to The Tank for their third home game of the season earlier tonight as they defeated the Wildcats of Wilmington University, 77-51.  The Dolphins improve to 2-2 with the victory and the Wildcats remain winless with a record of 0-5.  The Dolphins also take the lead in the all-time series and now hold a 3-2 advantage across five meetings.

Both offenses got off to a slow start in a sloppy first quarter that saw the two teams combine for 14 turnovers.  Only nine points were scored in the first 6:24 of the game and Wilmington would go in front by as many as seven, 14-7.  However, the Dolphins would turn things around at the start of the second quarter and a three-point deficit turned into a 14-point lead.  A 14-0 CSI run powered by the scoring of Jenalyse Alarcon and Kyra Rose put the Dolphins ahead 36-22 and CSI would go into halftime leading, 40-26.

Following halftime, the Dolphins continued to build upon their lead behind dominance in the paint and on the glass.  Alarcon and Rose both worked their way to double-doubles and CSI grew their lead to as many as 29 in the fourth quarter.  The Wildcats were never within single-digits at any point in the second half and the Dolphins were able to cruise to a 26-point victory.

Rose, Alarcon, Dana Phelan, and Madison Haggett all scored in double-figures for the Dolphins and Rose finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds.  Alarcon was three assists shy of a triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists and Phelan's 11-point effort was her fourth double-digit scoring outing in as many games to start the season.

The Dolphins will be back home for their next game on Sunday when they host Bloomfield College at The Tank in another non-conference matchup.  Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
