DOLPHINS DEFEAT BLOOMFIELD FOR SECOND STRAIGHT HOME WIN

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team ended their two-game homestand earlier today as the picked up a 70-58 win over Bloomfield College.  The Dolphins improve to 3-2 with their second consecutive victory and the Bears drop to 1-4 with the loss.  The win is also the first for CSI against Bloomfield in program history.

The Dolphins opened the game on a 12-2 run and never looked back from there.  CSI went on to win the opening quarter 21-9 behind 3-5 three-point shooting including a pair of threes by Dana Phelan.  Though the Dolphins did not shoot the ball equally well in the second, the CSI defense held the Bears to 7-33 shooting in the first half and 0-11 from beyond the arc.  This sent the Dolphins into the half leading by 15 points, a lead that did not fall to single digits at any point the rest of the way.

The Bears won the third by a single point, 19-18, but never got any closer than 11 points in the quarter.  Bloomfield got as close at 10 in the fourth, but the Dolphins were able to shut down any hopes of a Bears comeback thanks in large part to the offensive production of their starting five.  Four Dolphins finished the game in double-figures, and the CSI defense held the Bears under 33% from the field and under 24% from beyond the arc.  Leading the way in scoring for CSI was Phelan with 22 followed by Ashley Lambert with 16, Kaia Johnson with 12, and Jenalyse Alarcon with 11.  The Dolphins also held a 34-21 advantage on the glass and were the far more efficient team both from the field and three-point range.

Next up for the Dolphins is their conference opener on Wednesday night when they hit the road to face Molloy University.  The CSI women will open that doubleheader against the Lions at 5 PM.
