Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS DEFEAT QUEENS FOR SECOND CONFERENCE WIN, FOURTH STRAIGHT VICTORY

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team kept their win streak going today as they defeated the Queens College Knights for their second conference win, their fourth straight victory overall.  The Dolphins improve to 5-2 on the season and are now 2-0 in conference play.  The Knights fall to 2-7 on the year and are 0-2 against the ECC.

Both teams began the game ice cold from the field as no points were scored for the first three minutes.  It was Queens that broke through for the first basket, and the Knights went on to score 15 of the 21 points in the opening quarter.  CSI trailed 15-6 after one, but Kyra Rose gave the Dolphins offense a spark off the bench.  Rose would go on to score 8 of the first 10 CSI points in the game as the Dolphins battled back from down as many as 14 points.  After trailing 22-8, the Dolphins forced 8 Queens turnovers in the second and finished the quarter on a 14-2 run.

In addition to their turnover issues, the Knights began to struggle mightily shooting the ball in the third quarter.  Leading 24-22 coming out of halftime, Queens surrendered consecutive baskets by Ashley Lambert to tie the score at 26.  Lambert would go on to erupt from that point forward scoring 22 points in the final 20 minutes of the game, setting a new career scoring high.  CSI would lead by 6 after three and the Dolphins would proceed to dominate the fourth as they went on to win by 17 points, 58-41.

Lambert's career-high marked the third straight game in which she has scored at least 16 points for the Dolphins, all wins.  Rose also finished in double-figures with 10 points off the bench and Jenalyse Alarcon registered 7 points and 8 rebounds.  Nkiru Awaka led the Knights with 16 points and 12 rebounds and was one of three Knights with at least 11 boards.

The Dolphins pick up conference play on Wednesday when they hit the road to face Mercy University at 5 PM.  After that, the Dolphins return to The Tank on Saturday to face St. Thomas Aquinas College.
