Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS EARN SECOND STRAIGHT NON-CONFERENCE VICTORY WITH WIN OVER ST. ROSE, 77-67

Albany, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team made it back-to-back non-conference wins earlier tonight as they defeated The College of Saint Rose by a final score of 77-67.  The Dolphins improve to 8-4 with the win and drop the Golden Knights below the .500 mark at 5-6.  The win is the first for the Dolphins against Saint Rose avenging a loss suffered during the 2021 Tournament of Heroes in the first and only prior meeting between the two teams.

After the Golden Knights took an early 6-2 lead, neither team would lead by more than 3 points until there was 7:36 remaining in the first half.  With CSI in front by 2, Messiah Mallory connected from beyond the arc for 3 of his 21 points.  This put the Dolphins ahead by 5, a lead they went on to extend as high as 7.  However, the Golden Knights ended the first half on a 14-4 run and took a 35-31 lead into halftime.

Early in the second half, the Golden Knights would grow their lead to 5 for the first time , but that lead was short-lived.  A 7-2 Dolphins run put CSI back in front briefly, but the two teams proceeded to trade baskets for the next several minutes.  With the Golden Knights leading by 4, Chris Clancy connected on the first of his two consecutive three-pointers which put the Dolphins back in front by 2.  Once again, CSI didn't hold on to the lead very long and found themselves behind 63-59 with just over 6 minutes to play.

Trailing by 4, Messiah Mallory scored 5 straight points to help pull the Dolphins to within one.  From here, neither team would score for nearly 3 minutes before the Dolphins finally took the lead for good on a Bryce Waterman jumper.  In front 66-65, the CSI defense would only allow 2 points the rest of the way as the Dolphins scored 13 of the final 15 points in a 77-67 victory.

Mallory led the Dolphins with 21 points followed by Waterman with 12 and Clancy with 11.  On the glass, Mallory added 5 rebounds, Clancy had 7, and Adeleye Oyekanmi had 8 boards to go along with 8 points.  In addition to CSI's late-game defensive effort, three-point shooting was a major factor as the Dolphins shot nearly 43% from beyond the arc and connected on 3 more three-pointers than the Golden Knights.

In a rare second game in three days, the Dolphins will return to action at home on Saturday against the University of New Haven.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00.
