GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT IN MATCHUP WITH MOLLOY

2/11/2023 6:00:00 AM

Rockville Centre, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team looks to lock up a playoff spot today as they face the Molloy University Lions for the second time this season.  The Dolphins enter today's game with a 9-14 record on the year and are 5-8 against the ECC.  The Lions come in 4-18 on the season and are 3-10 against the East Coast Conference.  The Dolphins took the win the first time these two teams met earlier this season, their first ever win against Molloy in six tries.  A CSI win in today's game clinches a playoff spot for the Dolphins as they would move four games ahead of Molloy in the standings with just two conference games remaining.

The Dolphins last played on Wednesday night against Queens and picked up a huge win to pass the Knights in the standings and move to within one game of clinching the first Division II postseason berth in the history of the program.  Gia Esposito scored a season-high 17 points to lead CSI and earned TLC Physical therapy Player of the Game alongside Elizabeth Lofaro who scored 13.  Molloy also last played on Wednesday against the University of the District of Columbia and suffered a 74-68 loss.  The defeat put a damper on the Lions playoff hopes, but they remain alive in the chase for a playoff spot heading into today's game.

Esposito and Lofaro led the Dolphins in scoring on Wednesday, but Jenalyse Alarcon remains the teams leading scorer and came within one point of a double-double against the Knights on Wednesday night.  Lofaro and Esposito were joined in double-figures by Ashley Lambert who finished with 10 points following a strong fourth quarter.  The CSI defense also remains a big reason why the team is closing in on a playoff spot as they held Queens to just 29% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc in Wednesday's game.   The Lions are without a double-digit scorer, but Trinity Hudson is close to the 10-point mark averaging 9.6 points per game.  She also leads the team in rebounding with 10.4 per game followed by the team's second-leading scorer Gianni Domond who averages 8.7 rebounds per game.  Last time the Lions faced CSI, it was a disastrous shooting performance that ended with Molloy shooting under 25% from the field and just 2-17 from three-point range.

All-Time Series - Molloy leads, 5-1
