GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO MAINTAIN PLAYOFF POSITION AGAINST UDC

2/18/2023 8:00:00 AM

Washington D.C. - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team looks to maintain their playoff position as they hit the road today for a matchup with the University of the District of Columba.  The Dolphins enter today's game 9-16 on the season and 5-9 against the East Coast Conference.  The Firebirds come in with a record of 13-12 and have already locked up a playoff spot with an 8-6 conference record.  UDC picked up the win the first time these two teams face one another earlier this season and the Firebirds lead the all-time series 3-0.

The Dolphins last played on Tuesday against New Haven and nearly pulled off a massive comeback in the closing seconds.  After trailing by as many as 18 points, the Dolphins tied the score in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter.  The Chargers then took the lead with 4 second remaining before the Dolphins failed to connect at the buzzer in an attempt to tie.  UDC will also be looking to bounce back from a tough loss as the were beaten by a single point last Saturday against Queens.

Jenalyse Alarcon and Ashley Lambert continued to provide the Dolphins with consistent scoring against New Haven on Tuesday combining for 30 points against the Chargers.  Both shot 50% from the field and Lambert continued her stellar shooting from beyond the arc.  Lambert is shooting 33% from long range on the season and Alarcon is just shy of 50% from the floor.  However, it was Gia Esposito who led CSI in scoring last time they faced the Firebirds.  Having one of her best games of the season, Esposito scored 15 points on 6-10 shooting against the Firebirds.  The Firebirds offense is led by a pair of dynamic scorers, Destiny Ryles and Latavia Jackson.  Both are hovering around the 17 points per game mark and both scored in double-figures last time they faced the Dolphins.  Tori Williams, UDC's leading rebounder, had a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double against CSI earlier this season and was also a factor defensively with a block and two steals.
