SWIMMING & DIVING CONTINUES RECORD-SETTING EFFORT DURING FINAL THREE DAYS OF METS CHAMPIONSHIP

2/19/2023 11:30:00 PM

Piscataway, NJ - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team continued the 2023 Metropolitan Conference Swimming & Diving Championship over the weekend and continued to collect record-setting performances beyond Thursday's record-setting relays.  The meet, which continued from Friday through Sunday, featured morning prelims and evening finals each of the three days.

After a pair of records set on Thursday in the night's lone event, the 800 Freestyle Relay, the Dolphins set several more records over the next three days.  First, the CSI women set a record in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:43.88.  The team of Katherine Ebrahim, Jessica Johnson, Morgan Novello, and Brooke Manning bested the old record by less than a second.  In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the same unit set another program record finishing with a time of 3:48.81.  The CSI men added a new record of their own in the 400 Yard Medley Relay with a time 3:30.78.  The squad of Maxim Kleyer, Anthony Attenborough, Charles Cusumano, and David Poggioli acheived that time, good for seventh overall in the event.  The CSI men also set a new record in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay as William Kwan, Kleyer, Attenborough and Poggioli combined to post a time of 3:11.46.

In addition to the new record, the Dolphins also had several standout individual efforts scattered throughout the packed weekend.  First, Attenborough placed 13th overall in the 200 Yard IM.  Poggioli also placed in the 50 Yard Freestyle finals and Kwan placed 13th in the 400 Yard IM.  Both Attenborough and Cusumano placed top-20 in the 100 Yard Butterfly and Cusumano and Nicholas Tartaglione each finished in the top-20 in the 200 Fly.  However, the highest placings for the Dolphins in swimming belonged to Poggioli and Kleyer who finished 10th in the 200 Free and the 100 Back respectively.  Kleyer finished just outside of the top ten taking 11th in the 200 Back as well.

For the women, Jessica Johnson finished top-20 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and the 100 Yard Freestyle.  Jordan Swanson also qualified for the finals in both 1 Meter and 3 Meter Diving taking 4th in both events.  In the process, she also set new program records for an 11-dive score in each final.  Fellow diver Michael Graham earned his team points with his 9th place finish in the 3 Meter Diving prelims, but he missed the cut for finals by just one spot.
