Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS CAN'T SLOW DOWN WILDCATS OFFENSE IN 93-62 LOSS

Amherst, NY -  The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team did not have an answer for the Wildcats offense earlier tonight as the Dolphins fell to Daemen University by a final score of 93-62.  The Dolphins fall to 6-15 overall with the loss and they are now 4-7 against the East Coast Conference.  The Wildcats improve to to 14-7 on the season with the win and are now 7-4 against the conference.

The two teams traded baskets through the first seven minutes of the game and the Dolphins trailed 11-10 with just over thirteen minutes remaining in the first half.  After a relatively slow start in terms of scoring for both teams, the Daemen offense came to life with a 9-0 run in less than three minutes.  This put Daemen ahead by double-figures for the first time, but the Dolphins immediately battled back to within two.  After seeing their lead trimmed down to a pair, the Wildcats went on another scoring run, this time 10-0, to go in front by twelve.  After trailing 22-20 with 6:49 on the clock, CSI would score just seven more points until halftime and went into the break behind by fifteen.

Following the intermission, the Wildcats quickly surged ahead by twenty and never looked back.  Despite strong offensive efforts from Chris Velasquez and David Shkolniy, the Dolphins would not get within twenty at any point during the final sixteen minutes.  After narrowly escaping The Tank with a four-point win the first time these two teams met, the Wildcats were able to coast to a 31-point win in in tonight's game.  The win for Daemen is their second in a row and earns them a sweep of the season series against the Dolphins.

The Dolphins were led in scoring by Shkolniy, who scored 18 points in 18 minutes, and Velasquez who finished with 15.  The only other Dolphin in double-figures was JJ Chestnut, and Messiah Mallory was the only CSI starter who played more than 30 minutes in the game.  Four Wildcats finished scoring in double-figures including their three leading scorers on the season, Dylan Fasoyiro, Joey Atkins, and Nick MacDonald.  As a team, the Wildcats shot 48% from the field and 34% from beyond the arc.  This gave them a distinct shooting advantage over the Dolphins who shot 35% from the floor and 22% from downtown.
