SWIMMING & DIVING NAMED TO 2022-2023 CSCAA FALL SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICA TEAM

2/7/2023 10:00:00 AM

It was announced last week that the College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team has been named to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team for Fall 2022-2023.  The Dolphins were among 803 teams from 479 institutions selected for the honor based on their Fall 2022 team GPA's.  19,426 student-athletes contributed to the selection of the 803 teams, and for the Dolphins, the award continues a history of academic achievement for the Swimming & Diving program.

For the CSI women, nine Dolphins contributed to earn the CSCAA accolade with a team GPA of 3.42 in the Fall semester of 2022-2023.  For the CSI men, 13 Dolphins contributed to a 3.36 GPA in the recently concluded semester.  This mark was good for the top 15% of Men's Swimming & Diving programs in the nation for NCAA Division II.

The Swimming & Diving program has had a long history of academic success.  Melissa Poggioli, who has been a part of the program for four seasons, will finish her Dolphins career with a 3.96 GPA.  Three other CSI women above the 3.6 GPA mark are Katherine Ebrahim with a 3.69, Jessica Johnson with a 3.68, and Brooke Manning with a 3.67.   On the men's side, David Poggioli currently leads the team with a 3.9 cumulative GPA.  Also above the 3.6 mark are Ethan Abramov with 3.82, Charles Cusumano with a 3.79, and William Kwan with a 3.65.

This CSCAA Scholar All-America recognition comes with two weeks remaining before the final meet of the season for the Dolphins.  They will wrap up their 2022-2023 schedule with a trip to Rutgers University for the Metropolitan Swimming & Diving Conference Championship.  That meet begins on Thursday February 16th and concludes on Sunday February 19th.
