Clermont, FL – The College of Staten Island Softball Team opened their Florida trip today with two games at the Legends Sports Complex in Clermont. In the first game, the Dolphins fell to the Wayne State College Wildcats, 12-4. In their second game of the day the Dolphins lost to Lynn University by a final score of 13-0. With the two losses, the Dolphins fall to 2-2. The Wildcats improved to 2-12, and the Fighting Knights improved to 12-9.
GAME 1 VS WAYNE STATE COLLEGE
Dolphins pitching struggled to find the strike zone in the opening inning issuing five walks and giving up five runs in the first. In a big hole early, the Dolphins offense delivered six hits and responded with a four spot in the second. The six CSI hits and a Wildcats error propelled the Dolphins back to within a run, but the Dolphins would never get even or take the lead. Wayne State scored three times in the second to go back ahead by four, and they ultimately closed out the victory in the sixth with another four-spot.
GAME 2 VS LYNN UNIVERSITY
The Fighting Knights opened the scoring with one run in the first and never looked back. The second inning saw two obstruction calls against the Dolphins and a pair of base-hits help Lynn score three more times to go ahead by four. The Fighting Knights then broke the game open with seven runs in the third and went on to win 13-0.
Mariah Carcano and Alyssa Acosta each had two hits in game one against the Wildcats. Anissa Acosta drove in two runs during the four-run second inning for the Dolphins as well. In game two, the Dolphins didn't register their first hit until the fifth and their pitching staff continued to struggle with their command.
The Dolphins continue their participation in The Spring Games tomorrow when they take on Lake Erie College and The College of St. Rose.
