Game Recap: Softball |

PANTHERS TAKE TWO FROM DOLPHINS IN NON-CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER

Garden City, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team was back in action earlier today and dropped a pair of games to Adelphi University.  After coming up one run short in game one, the Dolphins were shut in out in game two, 7-0.  The two losses drop the Dolphins to 11-27 on the season and the Panthers improve to 27-6.

GAME 1
A first-inning error by the Dolphins ultimately proved to be the difference in game one as the first run of the afternoon came home following a defensive miscue at third base.  Ahead 1-0, a double and a sacrifice fly plated two more for Adelphi in the third to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.  In the next half-inning, the Dolphins got started with a leadoff walk and a one-out single to put two on base for Elizabeth Moore.  Moore proceeded to drive in both baserunners with a two-RBI double, and the Dolphins now had the tying run in scoring position.  However, this is as far as Moore would get, and the Dolphins would not move a runner past first base the rest of the way in a 3-2 loss.

GAME 2
After a scoreless first inning, Dolphins pitching did not record an out in the second until two runs had already scored.  The Panthers went on to score four in the inning and already had all of the offense they would need.  The Dolphins picked up their first hits in the sixth, but at this point they already trailed by seven runs.  The two sixth-inning CSI hits were also the team's only two hits in the game as the Dolphins went on to lose by a final score of 7-0.

Aileen Balderas and Elizabeth Moore each hit safely in both games and Balderas finished 2-3 with a run scored in game one.  Moore's two-RBI double accounted for the only two CSI runs on the day and the Dolphins ended the day with seven hit between the two games.  It was a strong effort in the circle for the CSI pitching staff in game one as they allowed just two earned runs on five hits.  The single CSI error in the first game of the day proved costly as the game's lone unearned run was ultimately the difference.

The Dolphins will play the biggest games of their season to this point on Friday when they take on D'Youville University in Buffalo.  Though the Saints are not playoff eligible this season, the Dolphins can take a big step towards securing a playoff spot with additional conference wins.  The Dolphins took the win in both games against D'Youville at home earlier this season.
