SOFTBALL SETTLES FOR SPLIT OF SEASON SERIES WITH D'YOUVILLE FOLLOWING DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

Buffalo, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team traveled to Buffalo earlier today for a matchup with D'Youville University in conference play.  After taking both games from the Saints at home earlier this season, the Dolphins were swept in today's doubleheader.  The two losses drop the Dolphins to 11-29 on the season and 3-11 against the East Coast Conference. The Saints are now 12-22 on the year and 6-6 in conference play.

GAME 1
The Saints scored five time in the first inning and never looked back as the Dolphins would not get any closer than four runs the rest of the way.  A Natalya Knoth RBI double opened the scoring for CSI in the second, but the Saints would score three times in the next half-inning to go in front 8-1.  The Dolphins pulled back to within five in the third behind a fielder's choice and a single by Elizabeth Moore to make it 8-3.  However, this is the final time the Dolphins would score as they went on to fall by a final of 9-3.

GAME 2
After falling behind early in game one, the Dolphins flipped the script and took an early three-run lead in game two.  Anissa Acosta, Knoth, and Amelia Funston all delivered RBI hits for CSI in the first inning to give the Dolphins their largest lead of the day.  However, the lead would not last long as the Saints responded with four runs in the next half-inning.  After a single and two walks loaded the bases, the Saints plated four runs on a sacrifice fly and back-to-back RBI hits.  This would be the final time that either team would score as both pitching staffs were dominant the rest of the way.

Knoth had a big day for the Dolphins at the plate with three hits in game one and two more in game two.  She was the only Dolphin with multiple hits in either of the two games and CSI finished with 13 hits on the day.  In the circle, Alexis Miramontes shut the Saints out for the final four innings of game two, but the CSI offense was unable to score beyond the first inning.

With the two losses to D'Youville, the remaining conference games on CSI's schedule become much more important.  The Dolphins welcome Queens, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Mercy into the CSI Softball Complex during the next two weeks.  In order to make the playoffs, the Dolphins would likely have to win at least four of those six games.  Next up on the schedule for CSI will be two games against Queens at the CSI Softball Complex on Tuesday.
