SOFTBALL SPLITS A PAIR OF ONE-RUN GAMES WITH CHESTNUT HILL

Philadelphia, PA – The College of Staten Island Softball Team split a pair of one-run games with Chestnut Hill College earlier today as each team came from behind to pick up a win in the non-conference doubleheader.  With the split, the Dolphins end the day 9-19 and the Griffins end play 3-26.

GAME 1
The Griffins scored first with a run in the bottom half of the opening inning but the Dolphins would score the next four.  After a wild pitch and a steal of home plated the first two Dolphins runs in the third, Aileen Balderas connected on a two-run homer to give the Dolphins a 4-1 lead.  Now trailing by three, the Griffins would score seven unanswered runs across the next four innings.  Kayla Rolon hit a two-run homer of her own to make it a one-run game in the bottom of the third.  Two fourth inning runs then gave the Griffins a 5-4 lead that they extended to 8-4 by the end of the sixth.  Entering their final turn at bat trailing 8-4, the Dolphins put together a four-run rally that would tie the score.  An Amelia Funston RBI single plated the first CSI run of the inning before a Victoria Whalen double plated two more.  A wild pitch the brought home the tying run, and the Dolphins would ultimately score the go-ahead run in the next inning on a sacrifice fly to win 9-8.

GAME 2
After the Dolphins scored one in the first inning, neither team would get on the board again until the fourth.  A groundout brought home the first Griffins run in that inning and an RBI single by Sklyler Cunningham gave Chestnut Hill the lead, 2-1.  The Dolphins took the lead back in the fifth on an RBI single by Natalya Knoth, and an Anissa Acosta home run gave CSI some extra insurance in the sixth.  Trailing by two, the Griffins put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh.  Mianna Lopez Del Haro drove in the first of three Griffin runs with a double and the wild pitch brought home the tying run.  With the winning run now on third, a bunt by Samantha Toro brought home the game-winning run as the Griffins walked off with a 5-4 victory.

Alyssa Acosta and Rianne Mayer each had three hits in game one with the biggest blow at the plate from the Dolphins coming on the Balderas home run.  Both Balderas and Whalen had two RBI's in the game and were key in the Dolphins come-from-behind win.  In game two, five different Dolphins had two hits, but this time the Dolphins were on the other side of a late-inning comeback.

The Dolphins will be right back in action tomorrow as they take on Mercy College in an East Coast Conference doubleheader.  First pitch of game one will be at 2:30 PM.
