DOLPHINS MAKE SECOND APPEARANCE IN ECC OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

5/4/2023 8:00:00 PM

Rochester, NY - The College of Staten Island Outdoor Track & Field Team competed for the final time this season earlier today as they made their second appearance in the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship.  The Dolphins finished top three in three separate events and finished in the top ten in many others.  The Dolphins also achieved several personal-bests to wrap up a season which saw six program records fall.

For the CSI women, Jazmine Severo and Skylar Pointer each earned a second-place finish and Ava Thompson earned a third-place finish.  In the High Jump, Severo took second with a height of 1.55m in the event.  In the Hammer Throw, Pointer reached a collegiate-best distance of 37.78m, and in the Discus, Thompson achieved a distance of 31.15.  Also in the field, Rebecca Andes achieved a collegiate-best distance of 31.44m in the Hammer Throw and Stephen Andes achieved a distance of 4.78m in the Long Jump.  Pointer also competed in the Shot Put alongside Aryanna Finkelstein and the duo finished fifth and sixth in that event.

On the track, several Dolphins clocked in at times that surpassed their previous personal-bests on both the men's and women's side.  Julia Calvo was first to set a new collegiate-best time in the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 1:11.45.  Both Precious Dillon and Fabiola Jean finished with a personal-best mark in the 100-Meter Dash with times of 13.82s and 14.91s respectively.  Lastly for the women, Angelina Guerriero finished the 200-Meter Dash in 30.18s to top her previous collegiate-best.

For the men, Matthew Amato set new top marks in the 800-Meter and 1500-Meter Run and Omar Sheriff completed the 100-Meter Dash in 11.96s to achieve a new personal-best.  Also competing on the track for the CSI men were Muhammed Qadri, Alan Bass and Jamel Reynolds.  Reynolds competed in the 400-Meter Dash while Qadri and Bass competed alongside Amato in both the 800-Meter and 1500-Meter events.

The Dolphins concluded the 2023 Outdoor Track & Field season with today's meet.  With no senior on the roster, much of this year's squad should be expected to return next season.  However, the suspension of competition during the 2020 season could result in some of the program's junior departing ahead of the 2023-2024 season.  The program will also be looking for a new Head Coach during the offseason as the position was vacated by Andrew Gangemi at the conclusion of the Cross-Country season late last year.  With a new Track & Field Complex recently completed on campus and the hiring of a new coach on the horizon, the program should have a bright future to look forward to when the Dolphins return to action in the Fall.
