Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS FALL TO DAEMEN IN RETURN TO CONFERENCE PLAY, 73-54

Amherst, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team lost their return to conference play earlier tonight as they were defeated by the Daemen University Wildcats, 73-54.  The Dolphins are now 5-10 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.  The Wildcats improve to 9-4 on the year and remain unbeaten against the ECC at 4-0.  Daemen also remains perfect against the Dolphins all-time with their sixth straight win against CSI.

The Dolphins came out strong and scored the game's first seven points, but the CSI lead was short-lived.  After CSI led by as many as eight behind a pair of early three-pointers, the Wildcats came all the way back to take a 15-14 lead with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter.  Daemen then closed the quarter with a three-pointer by Claire Pikett as time expired to take a four-point lead into the second.  The two teams traded a pair of baskets to open the second, but neither team would score for nearly four minutes after that.  The Dolphins finally snapped the scoring drought with just shy of three minutes left before halftime, but the Wildcats got the better of the half's final minutes and took a six-point lead into the locker room.

Following the intermission, the Dolphins kept the game close for much of the third as Dana Phelan and Kyra Rose led the way offensively.  Phelan opened the half with one of her four threes and Rose scored six straight CSI points to cut the Daemen lead to two.  However, this is where th Wildcats would seize control and begin to pull away.  Faced with losing their lead, Daemen ended the third quarter on an 18-6 run to go ahead by 14.  That scoring run continued into the fourth and the Dolphins would not get any closer than 13 the rest of the way in a 73-54 loss.

Rose led the Dolphins in scoring for the second straight game with 13 points followed by Phelan and Ashley Lambert who both scored 12.  Pikett scored 20 to lead the Wildcats and Alahna Paige finished with 19.  The Dolphins held the Wildcats to 43% from the field and well under 30% from beyond the arc, but CSI shot only 32% from the floor and 27% from distance.  After a hot start from three-point range, the Dolphins finished just 6-22 on three-point attempts.

Sunday's scheduled game against D'Youville University has been postponed and the Dolphins will return home ahead of a looming winter storm.  The next game on the schedule for Women's Basketball will be played at The Tank on Wednesday when they take on Lincoln University at 5:30 PM.
