Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MALLORY REACHES 1000 CAREER POINTS AS DOLPHINS SCORE BIG WIN OVER UDC, 98-69

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team scored a big win earlier today as they knocked off the University of the District of Columbia, 98-69.  The Dolphins are now 11-6 on the year with a 5-1 record in conference play.  The Firebirds drop to 5-10 on the season and fall to the .500 mark in conference play at 3-3.  In the victory, Messiah Mallory reached the 1000-point mark for his CSI career in the midst of his junior season.

The Dolphins got off to yet another strong start and never looked back as they led for the entire game.  CSI opened the game by scoring the first five points and 18 of the first 22 points through eight minutes.  12 of the first 18 Dolphin points came from beyond the arc including a pair of threes by Bryce Waterman, but it was the CSI defense that stifled UDC in the early going.  After building a 14-point lead, CSI traded baskets with UDC for much of the final 12 minutes of the half.  Waterman continued his red-hot shooting, but CSI would never lead by more than 17 before halftime.  By the time the teams headed to the locker room, the Dolphins lead had returned to 14.

After the Dolphins closed the first half on a quick 10-5 run, they carried that momentum forward into the second half.  Following a strong shooting effort from the outside in the first half, the Dolphins dominated the paint early in the second half.  An offense featuring Mallory and Jordan McAllister propelled the Dolphins to a 20-point lead for the first time with just over 12 minutes to play.  It was also at this point that a free-throw by Mallory gave him 1000 points for his career.  Beyond this point, the Dolphins would never trail by less than 20 again as they would easily close out a 29-point win, 98-69.

Five Dolphins scored in double-figures including Mallory, Waterman, McAllister, Aaron Goldstein, and JJ Chestnut.  Continuing to shoot the ball extremely well, the Dolphins posted 46% shooting from the field and over 39% shooting from three-point range.  However, the 20 CSI second chance points combined with their hustle on defense and the glass is what helped the Dolphins build their large lead.

The Dolphins continue conference play at home on Wednesday night when they host Mercy University at 7:30 PM as part of an ECC doubleheader.
