WOMEN'S BOWLING OFFICIALLY INTRODUCES JEFF MARTIN AS HEAD COACH AHEAD OF EIBT TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND

1/26/2024 9:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Bowling Team officially introduced Jeff Martin as their Head Coach today.  The announcement comes just days ahead of the team's second competitive outing as they will take part in Eastern Intercollegiate Bowling Tournament events this weekend.  The team made its competitive debut early last year in the same event putting the new club program on the map and jump starting the growth of Women's Bowling at CSI.  Martin's arrival provides yet another boost to one of CSI's newest club programs and further diversifies the women's sports offerings at the College of Staten Island.

Martin is a CSI graduate with a great deal of experience both as a coach and as a competitive bowler.  He competed at Curtis High School where he served as team captain in 2009 before becoming an assistant coach from from 2010-2011.  From 2008-2011, he also served as a USBC Junior Coach before becoming a member of the Staten Island Board of Directors for the organization.  His individual accomplishments are extensive including a USBC sanctioned highest average (234), series (858) and game (300).  He also won a Junior Bowlers Tour Title in 2011 and four separate SIUSBC Championships.  Winning the 2022 New Year's Eve Battle of the Schools also afforded him the opportunity to donate $1000 to the Curtis High School Bowling Program.

Now, Martin gets the opportunity to give back to CSI in his new role, a responsibility that he is very grateful for.  "Being named the College of Staten Island Women's Bowling head coach has been a complete honor and privilege," Martin said.  "Not many people have the opportunity to graduate from the college they attended and are able to return as a head coach.  Becoming recognized by the United States Bowling Congress as a collegiate program is an accomplishment in itself."

Martin is excited for the opportunity to compete this weekend, and looks forward to being a part of a bright future for Women's Bowling at CSI.  "This program has successfully prepared student-athletes for Eastern Intercollegiate Bowling Tournaments during the 2023-2024 season," he said.  "The program has developed into a devoted group of competitors, striving to compete in future NCAA collegiate bowling tournaments with the potential of expanding into a top-tier collegiate bowling team in the country."
