Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS FALL TO SECOND IN CONFERENCE STANDINGS WITH LOSS TO STAC, 104-81

Sparkill, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team saw their conference winning streak come to an end earlier today as they fell to second in the East Coast Conference with a 104-81 loss against St. Thomas Aquinas College.  The Dolphins drop to 12-7 on the season with a 6-2 record against the ECC.  The Spartans improve to 15-3 overall with a 7-1 record in conference play.  The win also earns STAC a sweep of the season series and will ensure that they win any potential postseason tiebreaker over the Dolphins.

Bryce Waterman got the Dolphins off to a great start offensively connecting on each of his first two shot attempts from beyond the arc in the game's first 64 seconds.  This quickly put CSI up 6-0, but STAC scored 9 of the next 10 points to take their first lead of the game.  From here, the two teams traded baskets for nearly seven minutes, but Waterman remained red-hot for the Dolphins and continued to provide much of the scoring.  Eventually leading 29-28, the Spartans put together a 9-2 run to earn their largest lead of the half.  However, the Dolphins responded with nine straight points to pull to within one, and the Dolphins would go into halftime trailing by just four.

Aaron Goldstein pulled CSI to within three to start the second half, but the Dolphins would never get any closer than that.  A Chris Clancy three with 14:28 to play to brought CSI as close as four, but a 7-0 Spartans run extended the lead to double-digits for the first time.  The Dolphins would briefly pull to within single-digits, but STAC remained firmly in control the rest of the way as they went on to win, 104-81.

Behind an excellent first half, Waterman finished with 27 points on 8-16 shooting and 6-12 from downtown.  Goldstein had 14 and also shot an efficient 4-8 from distance.  Four Spartans scored in double-figures led by James Patterson's 28 points.  Lawrence Foreman and Rich Smith each registered a double-double as well and STAC shot over 48% from both the field and three-point range.

The Dolphins continue conference play on the road when they face Roberts Wesleyan University at 8:00 PM on Wednesday night.
