WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS SECOND MATCHUP WITH SPARTANS, 74-55

Sparkill, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team dropped their second meeting of the season with St. Thomas Aquinas College earlier today as they lost to the Spartans, 74-55.  The Dolphins fall to 6-12 on the season with the victory and are now 3-5 against the ECC.  With the victory, the Spartans improve to 11-8 overall and are now 6-2 against the conference.  The STAC win earns them a sweep of the season series and gives them a 6-1 lead in the all-time series against the Dolphins.

The Dolphins got off to a nice start to begin the game and took an early 7-3 lead in the opening minutes.  A 7-0 Spartans run followed, but the Dolphins quickly tied the score on a three by Dana Phelan.  However, the Spartans answered right back with a 9-0 run to end the first quarter ahead 17-10.  STAC also registered the first five points in the second before Phelan ended the run with a score to make it 22-12.  The STAC lead then grew to 15 with 2:37 to go before halftime, but Phelan and the Dolphins ended the half on a 7-0 run and trailed by eight at the intermission.

Phelan opened the second half with another three to cut the lead down to five before Jenalyse Alarcon trimmed it down to three with another CSI score.  However, the Spartans scored 12 straight and 19 of the next 22 to go in front by 19.  The lead would grow as large as 23 before the end of the third, and STAC took a 12-point lead into the final 4:27.  On the next CSI possession an Ashley Lambert three cut the lead to nine, but this was as close as the Dolphins would get the rest of the way.

Lambert went on to lead the Dolphins with 18 points after a strong second half and Phelan finished with 15.  Trinity Cheatom and Sarah Ericson scored 26 and 22 respectively for the Spartans and Erin Leary had 8 points and 16 rebounds.

The Dolphins will continue conference play on the road Wednesday night when they face Roberts Wesleyan University at 6:00 PM.
