Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS HOLD ON FOR NON-CONFERENCE WIN OVER FRANKLIN PIERCE, 93-86

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team opened 2024 with a win in non-conference play earlier today as they defeated the Ravens of Franklin Pierce university, 93-86.  The Dolphins improve to 9-5 with the victory and the Ravens fall to 3-10 on the season.  The win is the first for the Dolphins against Franklin Pierce after losing their first-ever meeting with the Ravens last season.

The Dolphins built a double-digit lead early in the game and did not trail at any point the rest of the way.  CSI's three-point shooting propelled them in front by 16 entering the half, and the Dolphins shot 7-11 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes.  Despite the prolific outside shooting, both teams were plagued by turnovers throughout the game and the Ravens were able to work their way back behind CSI's second half giveaways.  The Dolphins led by 20 with just over 13 minutes to play, but Franklin Pierce would begin to mount a comeback as the CSI turnovers piled up.

Less than four minutes after trailing by 20, Franklin Pierce had cut the Dolphins lead to 9.  Despite the narrowing lead, the Dolphins were able to keep the Ravens at arms-length for much of the half, and Franklin Pierce would not get any closer than 7 until the final five minutes.  It was Ja'Keese Kemp who led the Ravens comeback bid as he went on to finish the game with a game-high 22 points, but Bryce Waterman and the Dolphins continued to respond.  Kemp would score 9 consecutive FPU points to get the Ravens back to within 4, but Waterman would answer with a clutch three at 1:39 mark to put the Dolphins back in front by 7.  The Ravens went right down the floor and quickly scored to cut their deficit down to 5, but this was as close as they would get as the Dolphins closed out a 93-86 victory.

Waterman led the Dolphins with 20 points and Messiah Mallory added his fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Waterman and Mallory were two of four Dolphins to score in double-figures as JJ Chestnut had 15 and Jordan McAllister finished with 14 .  Kemp led the Ravens with 22 and Andrew Politi scored 15 on five made three-pointers.

The Dolphins wrap up a five-game stretch of non-conference games on Tuesday night when they take on the University of Bridgeport at 7:00 PM.
