Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

FALCONS PULL AWAY FROM DOLPHINS IN FOURTH QUARTER OF 67-58 LOSS

Waltham, MA - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team came up just short on the road earlier tonight as they dropped a non-conference matchup with the Bentley University Falcons, 67-58.  The Dolphins fall to 5-9 on the season and the Falcons improve to 11-2.  The Falcons take the inaugural meeting with the Dolphins and improve to 5-0 against the East Coast Conference this season.

The Dolphins came out strong in the opening minutes and quickly jumped out to an 8-0 lead.  The first six points of the game were scored by Ashley Lambert who finished the opening period with 8.  Kyra Rose also added 4 quick points off the bench and put the Dolphins ahead by 7 with her second basket.  However, the Falcons would end the quarter scoring 5 of the last 7 points and the Dolphins led by 4 after one.  After a poor shooting effort in the first, the Falcons vastly improved their shooting in the second.  Behind 50% from the field in the quarter, Bentley was able to erase the deficit and send the game to halftime tied at 33.

The Falcons continued their hot shooting early in the third and would go ahead by as many as 7 points.  Responding quickly, the Dolphins came storming back behind the scoring of Oyinkansola Oke.  The senior would score 7 of the last 9 points in the period and send the game to the fourth with Bentley in front, 52-50.  After briefly falling behind by 4, the Dolphins would tie the game on a score by Rose with 7:39 to play.  However, this would be the last time the Dolphins would score until the final 2 minutes.  At the 2:04 mark, Kaia Johnson brought CSI to within 5, but the Falcons answered right back with a score of their own.  From here, Bentley would close out the win from the free-throw line and they went on to defeat the Dolphins, 67-58.

With the score even, Johnson attacked the basket and scored to give the Dolphins the lead back.  This lead would be short-lived as Dede Stevenson answered with a go-ahead three-pointer to make it 65-64 with 21 seconds remaining.  Rose then put the Dolphins back in front with another layup leaving just 12 seconds on the clock.  Unfortunately for the Dolphins, this would be the last time they would lead as Roxkel Washington connected on a game-winning turnaround jumper in the paint with under 5 seconds to go.  Without a timeout, the Dolphins would not get off a quality shot as they went on to lose, 67-66.

Rose led the Dolphins with 16 off the bench followed by Lambert with 11 and Oke with 10.  As a team, CSI was incredibly efficient from the field for the first three quarters.  In the fourth, the Dolphins shot just 4-14 and 0-5 from three-point range.  Kylie Ducharme and Maggie Whitmore led the Falcons in scoring with 23 and 15 points respectively.  DuCharme also registered a double-double grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with her 23 points.

The Dolphins will resume conference play this weekend as they travel to Buffalo for a pair of ECC matchups against Daemen and D'Youville.  The Dolphins will face the Saints on Friday at 5:30 and will face the Wildcats on Sunday at 1:00.
