Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DOLPHINS FALL TO CHARGERS IN FINAL HOME MATCH, 4-1

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team fell to the University of New Haven in their final home match of the 2024 season earlier today as the Chargers defeated the Dolphins, 4-1.  The Dolphins finish the day 2-11-1 on the season and the Chargers improve to 9-3-2.  As of the conclusion of their game against New Haven today, the Dolphins remain alive in the hunt for an ECC playoff spot.  Earlier in the day, a D'Youville draw against UDC kept the team's playoff chances alive pending Sunday's result in the match between Queens and STAC.  In order for the Dolphins to make it past Sunday in the hunt, the Spartans must lose or draw against the Knights.

The two teams traded shots early, but it was the Chargers who came closest to scoring the opening goal.  Following a cross that set up an attacker open on the back post, Judley Deplan made a sliding block to keep out what would have been an early go-ahead goal for the Chargers.  In addition to the big defensive play by Deplan, the CSI defense stepped up to hold the Chargers without a goal for over 36 minutes.  Both teams had scoring chances during that time, but it was in the 37th minute that New Haven took the lead for good. Saar Almoznino put the Chargers on the board with a goal off an assist from Yans Alarcon.  This sent the game to halftime with New Haven in front by one, but the lead would grow quickly from there.

The Chargers scored twice in just over ten minutes to begin the second half.  as the game was broken open by goals from Davide Maiello and Adam Lindstrom.  Lindstrom struck again six minutes later with his second goal of the match, but the Dolphins immediately responded with a long strike from Peterson Larose.  The CSI goal was followed by a brief Dolphins surge during the latter portion of the second half, but the flurry of opportunities for the Dolphins did not result in another goal.  Leading by three, the Chargers created more than enough breathing room, and they went on to secure the 4-1 win.

The goal for Larose was his fourth of the season and his two shots trailed only Miguel Espinosa who finished the match with three.  The Chargers held a 17-9 shots advantage in the match with six shots on goal to CSI's three.

The Dolphins have one game remaining on their schedule at the University of the District of Columbia next Saturday at 1:00.  If St. Thomas Aquinas loses to or ties with Queens tomorrow, the Dolphins will be alive for a playoff spot entering their final game against the Firebirds.
