Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

TIGERS PULL AWAY FROM DOLPHINS LATE IN ROAD LOSS, 80-67

Philadelphia, PA - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team hit the road for the first time this season earlier tonight as they fell to Holy Family University by a final score of 80-67.  After the Dolphins built an early lead during a back-and-forth first half, the Tigers pulled away for the double-digit win late in the second half.  The defeat dropped the Dolphins to 1-2 on the year and the victory improved the Tigers to 2-1.  Holy Family now leads the all-time series 2-1 after avenging a loss to the Dolphins at The Tank last season.

The Dolphins led by as many as seven points early in the first half after a JJ Chestnut three put CSI in front 11-4.  A 13-5 run then gave Holy Family their first lead at the 10:09 mark in the first half, but neither team would lead by more than a single possession until the final seconds before halftime.  With just seven seconds to go before the break, Holy Family went ahead by four points from the free throw line and took a 35-31 lead into the locker room.  During the first twenty minutes, the Tigers more than doubled the shooting percentage of the Dolphins, 54% to 25%.  However, CSI remained well within striking distance ahead of the intermission.

The Tigers led by as many as seven early in the second half, but the Dolphins worked their way back to within two behind a 6-1 scoring stretch.  CSI would pull to within two more than once, but the Dolphins could not improve their second-half shooting enough to overtake the Tigers.  After a strong shooting performance in the first half, Holy Family shot nearly 48% in the second half and built their lead back to double-digits.  The Dolphins would get as close as six with 1:17 remaining on a pair of free throws from leading scorer Shemar Latty, but CSI would not get any closer than that as they went on to lose by 13.

Latty led the Dolphins with 16 points and was one of three Dolphins to finish in double-figures.  Messiah Mallory finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds while Aaron Goldstein scored 10 points and grabbed 6 boards.  Four Tigers scored in double-figures led by Jett Omarion with 19, and Holy Family finished the game shooting 51% from the field.  The two teams combined to shoot 65 free throws with the Dolphins going 20-28 and the Tigers shooting 25-37.

The Dolphins will return home this weekend when they host the University of Bridgeport on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
